Tenure with Odyssey: 17 Years (and Counting)

Seventeen years is more than just a milestone, it’s a testament to trust, consistency, and strong relationships. Wes Williamson’s journey with Odyssey is a great example of how the right recruiter connection and meaningful project work can turn an opportunity into a long-term partnership.

How did you first get connected with Odyssey, and what drew you to work with us?

Wes Williamson:

“I went back and rummaged through my emails and found an email from Kristin Hughes dated March 4, 2009 that started off with, ‘I came across your Dice resume and was curious

as to your current situation…’”

“Little did either of us know that her moment of resume ‘farming’ was the genesis of a 17-year (and counting) relationship between Odyssey, Kristin and me.”

“Kristin’s tireless energy, friendly optimism and results have allowed me to stay comfortably in Odyssey’s stable for going on seventeen years. Amazing!”

Can you share a little about the projects you’ve worked on while with Odyssey?

Wes:

“I brought with me a Microsoft .Net stack of skills, a healthy dose of mainframe exposure, logistics and transportation industry experience. Kristin was able to match me with an opportunity to work on a logistics development project where the ability to design and write Microsoft Windows applications and speak IBM Mainframe with team members was a big plus.”

“I took a short break from Odyssey to step back into the comfort of direct employment with another company. It didn’t take long to realize that the relationship I had with Odyssey could allow for movement between ‘gigs’ and a long-term relationship with a recruiter.”

“Since coming back home to Odyssey, I’ve moved between departments and divisions working on a large internet website, internal infrastructure projects, and currently develop for and support a global point of sale system.”

In your experience, what sets Odyssey apart from other companies or consulting firms?

Wes:

“Of course, as any recruiters do, they have a vested interest in keeping contractors busy. But Odyssey does more than that, they have assembled a team that truly enjoys what they are doing, and that makes me want to stick with them.”

“They are more than just interested in plugging into the revenue I generate. I just like our relationship and will stick with it as long as we’ll have each other!”

What advice would you give to a new consultant starting out with Odyssey?

Wes:

“It’s a nice formula: Take your ‘A’ game with you to the contract. Earn their respect. Be indispensable.”

“They renew your contract. Odyssey handles the ‘ugh’ part. You can focus on doing your best.”

Have you received any awards or recognition during your time here?

Wes:

“I’ve gotten a lot of ‘participation attaboys’, certificates, back patting, nods from those that matter on contracts. Some people disregard those, but I regard them as reminders that I’m doing something correctly and am thankful for them.”

“But I recently received one that carries more weight than usual.”

“I was selected to be on a small team assigned a task to produce a functional prototype of a specific potentially global system.”

Medal of Excellence
Medal of Excellence

“The customer was thoroughly impressed, enough that my team members and I were presented a fairly rare ‘Medal of Excellence’ from the CIO of the company.”

“It sits right next to my keyboard where I can flip it in my fingers and be proud of it.”

“Sometimes relatively small things bring the greatest happiness if you just regard them properly.”

Medals Earned, Milestones Achieved

Whether it’s earning a 5K medal at the finish line or receiving a Medal of Excellence at his desk, Wes continues to prove that achievement isn’t limited to one arena. Wes’s 17-year journey reflects what long-term consulting relationships can look like when trust, performance, and genuine connection come together. From logistics development to global systems support and balancing it all with his love for races - he brings dedication, endurance, and excellence to every challenge he takes on.

Thank you, Wes, for sharing your story and for being such a valued part of the Odyssey consultant community
