On the heels of its 20th anniversary, Odyssey Information Services is celebrating another milestone: Its first SourceCon Grandmaster Challenge champion.

Kristin Hughes, director of recruiting and senior technical recruiter, recently was announced winner of the 2021 global sourcing competition that places talent acquisition professionals in a race against the clock to find people online based on a series of riddles and real-world scenarios. The person with the most correct answers in the shortest amount of time after two rounds is declared the winner.

“This award is a testament to Kristin’s work ethic,” said Jon Hibbs, CEO of Odyssey Information Services. “She’s always looking for new ways to improve her skills and knowledge as a recruiter and sharing those ideas with the rest our recruiting team. She is by far among the best of the best when it comes to finding talent, and I couldn’t think of a more deserving person to earn this award.”

Even though Kristin has seen a lot of success over the last 13 years at Odyssey, she considers winning this competition to be her greatest accomplishment as a professional recruiter.

“I have had this goal for quite some time now and it seemed so out of reach because the competition is so fierce and there are so many smart and talented sourcers and recruiters out there,” Kristin said, who is only the 11th person to win the award. “I feel so grateful to be among this elite group.”

This year was Kristin’s fourth year competing for the top recruiting prize. She finished among the top 20 last year.

The toughest part of the competition is simply reaching the finish line, she said, but it’s an objective that represents the commitment and dedication required to succeed in the recruitment industry.

“You have to have a lot of grit and a lot of tenacity to finish this competition,” Kristin said. “It’s extremely challenging to get through. It basically shows that you’re not going to give up, you’re tenacious, you’re extremely curious, you have the desire to find the answer. And that applies to recruiting because our job is about not stopping until you get the job filled. When you’re trying to fill a job, you can’t just say there are no more applicants because that’s not true. There’s always somebody for it. You just have to be willing to put in the work to find them.”
